A Hearthstone company - serving New Rochelle, NY

Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown in New Rochelle: What to Know First

We provide independent Gelco chimney cap and crown service in New Rochelle, with most Gelco cap replacements and crown repairs completed in a single visit. Our technicians carry common Gelco parts and compatible professional-grade alternatives, so you’re not waiting on a warehouse shipment. Gelco caps and crowns are solid products, but the coastal freeze-thaw cycles around Long Island Sound accelerate the wear on their standard mesh and concrete crowns. We give you a flat price before we start, and we document everything with photos you can see. If you own a Gelco cap that’s rattling in the wind, staining the brick below, or letting water past the crown, call us at (516) 927-2678. Russell Haines and our team have been working on chimneys in this area for over 42 years.

How Gelco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Galvanized single-flue caps (Series 8, 13×13 and 17×17 common sizes): The mesh sides on these caps trap moisture against the flue tile in New Rochelle’s humid summers, then the freeze-thaw of January cracks the weld at the corner seams. We see this every February in the Wykagyl and Bonnie Crest areas. We replace with a Gelco stainless equivalent or a compatible Famco cap with better drainage geometry, whichever fits your flue and budget.
  • Multi-flue stainless caps (Series M-100, M-200): The lid overhang is generous, but the mounting struts fatigue where they bolt to the crown. After 12-15 years, the cap tilts and pools water on the crown center. We remove the cap, assess the crown integrity, and either re-anchor with upgraded stainless hardware or recommend a crown rebuild if the concrete is spalling underneath.
  • CrownSeal coating on Gelco-installed crowns: Gelco’s factory-applied CrownSeal is a good product, but we find it thins at the crown edge where UV hits hardest. In New Rochelle’s sun-exposed coastal properties, this edge failure lets water migrate behind the coating and delaminate it from the concrete in sheets. We grind back to sound concrete, apply a compatible bonding agent, and re-coat with HeatShield CrownCoat or a full concrete pour if the structural crown is compromised.
  • Chimney cap mesh on Gelco outside-mount models: The 5/8-inch mesh meets code for spark arresting, but it’s tight enough that creosote buildup from oil-fired appliances (common in older New Rochelle homes near the downtown corridor) can clog it in a single season. We clean the mesh in place when possible, or swap to a Gelco 3/4-inch mesh insert if the appliance and local code allow better draft flow.
  • Concrete crown cracks beneath Gelco caps: This isn’t a Gelco defect, but it’s the hidden damage we find on half the Gelco cap calls in New Rochelle. The cap was doing its job, but the crown underneath was poured without proper drip edge or reinforcement. Water got in, froze, and now the cap is riding on a crumbling base. We don’t bolt a new cap to bad concrete. We rebuild the crown with proper slope and overhang, then mount the cap to something that will last.

Our Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown Process

  1. 1
Call and schedule: A live person answers, 24 hours a day. We ask for your Gelco model if you know it, the chimney dimensions if you don’t, and what you’re seeing. Water in the firebox? Rust streaks? Animal intrusion? We note it all.
  2. 2
Level-2 camera inspection: Our technician arrives in uniform, background-checked, and sets up the camera before touching tools. We photograph the cap, crown, flue interior, and any water damage pattern. You see the images on the spot. We explain what’s wrong, what can wait, and what was never a problem to begin with.
  3. 3
Parts decision: If your Gelco cap is a standard size and the series is still in production, we’ll quote OEM. If it’s discontinued or the lead time is unreasonable, we stock compatible caps from Famco and Copperfield that match Gelco’s gauge and mesh spec. Same for crown coatings. We tell you which is which, and why we’re recommending it.
  4. 4
The repair: Cap replacement takes 45-90 minutes. Crown repair or rebuild takes 2-4 hours depending on access and weather. We work clean, tarp the roof line, and haul away the old material.
  5. 5
Test and document: We run a water test on crown repairs, check cap stability in wind, and photo-document the finished work. You get a written report with images.
  6. 6
Guarantee in writing: The 90-Day Done Right Promise covers everything we touched. If it’s not right, we come back. No paperwork to dig up, no arguing.

What Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown Costs in New Rochelle

Service Typical Range
Gelco single-flue cap replacement (standard size) $280 - $450
Gelco multi-flue cap replacement (M-series) $520 - $780
Crown coating repair (HeatShield or compatible) $340 - $580
Full concrete crown rebuild with new cap mount $1,200 - $2,100
Custom cap fabrication (non-standard flue or chase) $680 - $1,400

What moves the price: roof pitch and access difficulty, whether the flue tile needs repair before capping, and how far the crown damage has spread. A cap on a flat roof in the Ward Acres area is straightforward. A three-story Colonial on a slope in Paine Heights takes longer and more safety setup. We give you the full number before we start. Call (516) 927-2678 for a free estimate. Estimates are free, and we honor our standing $50 off any repair over $250.

Why New Rochelle Homeowners Call Hearthstone Chimney Co. for Gelco Work

We’ve been sweeping and repairing chimneys in New Rochelle since 1984. Russell Haines learned the trade hands-on after Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, then spent years in Westchester flues before the soot settled into a full-time calling. He’s worked plenty of older Colonial-era stacks in Beechmont, where the mortar tells stories the owners never knew.

We don’t chase calls with discounts and disappear. We’re here every day, phones answered by a live person, with background-checked technicians who complete most jobs in one visit. Our 90-Day Done Right Promise is in writing with no arguing. We work with Gelco, DuraFlex, HeatShield, and the other professional-grade brands because we know which material fits which problem. And we document everything with photos you can see and a plain-English verdict. Done right, and we stand behind it.
