Signs Your Copperfield Damper Repair Is Failing

There’s a safe middle ground here. You can check whether the handle linkage is simply disconnected, look for obvious creosote binding the plate, and confirm the model number from the firebox. Do not attempt to remove a stuck plate with force, and do not reach up past the damper into the flue. The actual replacement requires working in the smoke chamber, often on your back, with proper lighting and a mirror to seat the new plate square in the frame.
